ps 234 events

friends & fashion

Friends and Fashion is PS 234’s fun, fashionable fundraiser! Donate new and very gently used items. Such as handbags, costume jewelry, clothes, shoes, etc. and then come and shop, shop, shop! Proceeds benefit PS 234 and unsold items are donated. This is a great way to meet members of the school community, donate to the school, and recycle all the clothing that is just sitting in your closet looking for someone new to love it!

spring auction

The Spring Auction is one of the most important fundraising events of the school year. It is also a fabulous adults-only evening for our teachers, parents, and the neighborhood community to enjoy great food, drink, and the chance to bid on and win some great items. Auction items range from clothing, accessories, sports memorabilia, activities for children, restaurants, spa treatments, luxury vacations, hotel stays, and more. With the help of parent volunteers, the school is transformed from a place of learning and fun for our children to a sophisticated night out for parents. The auction committee is full speed ahead for this spring’s event to be held on Saturday, April 13th and we need many volunteers. Please contact auction@ps234.org for more information on the many ways you can get involved.

Fall Fest

Fall Fest is an event open to the community that kicks off the PS 234 school year. Students and parents come together to celebrate the fall season with autumn-inspired crafts, games, and outdoor activities. This is a great way for families to build community at the start of the school year and a way to bridge the school-at-home connection. About 75 volunteers are needed to make this event possible. Volunteer responsibilities include setting up and decorations, overseeing craft and activity tables, selling food, and clean up.

book fairs

The School Book Fair is an exciting time for children to partake in the joys of literature. Children are given the experience of shopping independently and browsing the shelves for books; while Parent volunteers help students with this very “GROWN UP” task. Students can often be found discussing books, characters, and genres and the excitement of making a purchase without an adult.  Parents do a lovely job transforming the first-floor corridor into a bookstore that would make anyone want to pick up a book. PS 234 holds two book fairs that are held each year at the school – one in the fall and the other in the spring. During the school day, teachers bring their class to shop at the fair. The fairs open early and stay open late so that parents can browse with their children. Volunteers are needed to help students select books and to restock shelves. The PTA receives 25% of book sales.

bake sales

On Halloween and Valentine’s Day, the children are buzzing with excitement over the joys of Bake Sale. For our children, this is an event to look forward to! Families are given the opportunity to bake cupcakes, cookies, and small sweets for an in-school bake sale. This is a fun and festive activity to do with your children at home which reinforces the school-home connection. All items are baked at home and brought in the morning of the sale. You can help by donating baked goods (we ask that they be nut-free) and by helping sell goods throughout the day. If your child has an allergy we suggest you bake a treat that you know they can enjoy and please list ALL ingredients so that it can safely be displayed on the allergy table.

game night

Games Night is a social event that has been designed for grades 4 & 5 to participate in an evening out (of course in the safety of the school.) There will be plenty of fun games, music, dancing in the gym, and activities within the school focusing around the winter season. Volunteers are needed to facilitate the arts & crafts tables, food and beverage sales, and organizing the festivities.

winter fair

The Winter Fair is geared for K-3rd grade students. This event involves games in the gym and activities within the school focusing around the winter season. The cafeteria and hallway are decorated to celebrate winter, and the gymnasium is transformed into an exciting maze; proving what boxes and a little imagination can accomplish. Volunteers are needed to run one of the many arts & crafts tables, food and beverage sales, organizing the festivities before during, and after the event.
